Patrick Henry: Fight against the Constitution :: American America History

Patrick Henry Fight against the administrationAlthough Henry refused to serve on the personalityal Convention, Madison needed Henrys persuasive centerings. Henry had a way to make people agree with his ideas. Even though Henry didnt serve on the Constitutional Convention, he was still present to put in his word. As soon as the meetings opened, Henry began to argue against the Constitution. This argument went on for three weeks. Henry was aware that the new government had to be strong, but felt that the Constitution made the central government too powerful. He thought that the power should lay in the hands of the states. What right had they the group that wrote the Constitution to say We the people, instead We, the States? he demanded. Not only was Henry in fear of the central government gaining power, but was also worried about protecting the South. He felt that the quick growing North would have more impute into how the government was to be ran. Henry feared that the South would be out voted in Congress. Patrick Henry was quoted before by saying, I am not a Virginian. I am American. Henry meant that all the states, North or South, should get equal say in what happens in the government. After all it is the same country and will effect both sides. Also, Henry refused to support the Constitution because it was lacking a bill of rights. He called it, the just about fatal plan that could possibly be conceived to enslave a free people. In other words he thought that without a bill of rights, we (the people) would be enslaving ourselves. Henry thought that the Constitution didnt protect the basic freedom of the people. Henry believed that people wouldnt be safe from a powerful government without the bill of rights. The Constitution took away the power from the states, ignored the South, and didnt protect the people it represented. To Patrick Henry, these were big mistakes and couldnt put his support behind them. When the power is taken away from the states, it ma kes the federal government in truth strong. He knew that there had to be a strong central government, but felt that the Constitution went too far. Henry wanted to protect the South. After all, at that time the South was more than half the country. If the country at that time was compared to a human body, the South was the heart of the country.

Born Of Different Cultures Essay -- Cultural Identity Essays

Many of us live on the hyphen of Different cultures. This teaching by Richard Rodriguez is true from many people in the world today. But what factors contribute the identification with culture and a nation? The various factors that define a culture atomic number 18 the way people see a cultures attitude, family values, religion in the family, and the reference of your family. At the present time the people of the world atomic number 18 very stereotypical, this is one of the many ways to misinterpret people of a contrary culture. To best understand a culture you should take the time to cozy up their way of life to really appreciate their culture. The first factor, which contributes to the identification with a culture and a nation, is a culture attitude towards outsiders. In Canadians What do they wishing? written by Margaret Atwood, it tells of Americans attitude toward the Canadians as a lesser person and their need to be liked by others. The Canadians are looked at as infer ior because after WW II, American business owners went into Canada and as wellk over most of their businesses. Some Canadians hate Americans for this because they have taken their own identity away from Canada. In The Arab World by Edward Hall, he uses hidden dimensions and proxemic patterns to show how the Arab culture presents itself. I moved my body in such a way as to communicate annoyance. Strangely enough, kinda of moving away, my actions seemed only to encourage him, because he moved even closer.(p.201) This statement shows how an Arab man makes an American man nervous by getting to close. But what is too close? In the Arab culture closeness is a sign of 2respect, but in American culture closeness is only for people who are affectionate. Another example of attitudes in culture is in the story Some Reflections on American Manners by Alexis de Tocqueville. Tocqueville argues that American have no tag of behavior and also has too much mobility in their actions. Through his ess ay Tocqueville uses the example that America has turned into an Individualistic Society and have destroyed the noble way of life with the new idea of democracy. The attitude of an insider of a culture is seen differently than what the visitors of that culture see. This view f... ...en their child is growing up in a neighborhood where they are the majority they can identify with them more easily. But when they move into a new neighborhood where they are the minority, they are usually picked on and have lower self-esteems. Trying to identify with a culture is a hard task to do for the children of the world today. Trying to find an identity for a child is an important thing while growing up.In conclusion I believe that the factors that contribute to the identification of a culture are attitude, family values, religion, and the origin of your family. I was brought up not to stereotype my parents put me in a school where there were diverse cultures. I 5made many friends of different cu ltures and that has helped me to this day. Being able to identify with a culture better helps you to understand why and how the do things differently than you do. Most people are afraid to take care something new but when learning a new culture and not having a basis against it makes other cultures more interesting. I believe having more model from many cultures make you a better person because you have the view of many, not just a few, or just one.

There are many attempted solutions that the security council of UN move, but did not completely succeed in stopping the war.In the incoming there go away not be as much fighting. There will be less conflict and more peace with the government and the FDLR. Hopefully in the future the people of Africa will not live in poverty as well as famine and have more money than what they have now. They could have enough money to survive longer and to buy medicine as well as food. Pressure Groups Essay -- Politics, Public Engagement

Introduction gouge groups are cognize to be small and super diverse formed on the basis of interest and activities, their functions give them a high earthly concern profile where minds are puzzle outd and driven to make change. A Pressure group is an organisation which seeks to influence the details of a comparatively small range of semipublic policies and which is not a function of a recognised governmental party (Baggott, 1995 p.2). An aim of pressure groups is to generate support which can influence political agendas this can directly persuade the government to consider taking action. In this essay I will concentrate upon exploring on various issues on pressure groups, discussing the relationship between the groups, their use of the media and their status as insiders and outsiders in the political process. Pressure groups have two main types of groups the insiders and outsiders which each promote a common cause with a different relationship with the media and political p arty reservation one as an unheard voice in the public sphere. To the public Pressure groups is another form where the public can engage in politics, participating directly in the political process. I will also intricate in this essay the arguments against pressure groups from the New Right lieu to the Neo pluralist perspective as well as the growths of pressure groups due to the use of the media and their political engagement. The size of a group is a basic indicator of how much public support they get especially those that posses open membership, they mobilise through demonstrations, protest involving some non members through organised events. The different types of well known pressure groups that I will include are Greenpeace, Child Poverty Action ... ...te and develop policies. Using a term called reactive coverage which uses the media to rove across its viewpoint and influence. The child poverty action group used media coverage to demonstrate that an issue was of publ ic concern and therefore reinforce a case being made civil servants (Field, 1977, pp53- 4). Environment pressure groups i.e. Greenpeace a well known pressure group backed by the government and the public has used the media to help change the climate of public opinion having an immediate influence. The growing use of the public relations and the media specialist by pressure groups reflects the influence which they believe the mass media have over public opinion and policy decisions (Baggott, 1995 pp. 184). Other strategies that pressure groups have used are posters or press advertizing in order to get their message across to its public.
